Help Wanted: Poets please apply, is a poetry anthology project I started in early May 2014. I invited other poets via my wordpress blog to join in the project as a way of individual promotion and free publishing for those who never experienced that before. 18 poets came forward and we all added our own poetic flair. We sincerely hope you enjoy the variety of the diverse and very talented group of poets.
Sincerely Emily Sturgill-Editor   This first collection is roughly is 151 pages in length, but please remember ebooks  maybe longer than paperbacks-as is the case with this one. I am unsure without double checking but I think the printed book was just over 100-120 pages in length.

Book Description

February 28, 2015
This is a creative collaborative collection of poetry focusing on three seasonal themes. First is Autumn, Secondly is seasonal holidays such as Dia de los muertos, Halloween, Samhain, Thanksgiving, Winter Solstice, Yule and Christmas. Last is transitioning the changing of Seasons from Summer into Autumn, or Autumn into Winter. There is an underlying connection to the natural world and our place as Poets in it. This collection is very unique yet diverse. Hopefully we weave a web of interrelated connections of Nature and her four seasons as we knock upon her door, we are dredging up Demeter. This collection includes the works of: Lessa Abbott, Omavi Victorine,Celestine Nudana,Jacob Appelman,Katy Ottaway,Scott William Kendall, Anna Bianca, Carrie Page,Emily Sturgill and Bianca Alu-Marr.
The second collection is roughly 79 pages long.

Still accepting poets for Autumn Poetry Anthology: Update

I am still working on the cover art. Right now, I have a total of six poets interested, I am going to list them by first name only if you do not see your name & have already submitted please email me. If you wish to join us I am extending the deadline for at least another two weeks.

The list of current poets involved are: Leesa, Carrie,Omavi,Celestine,Bianca and Emily-(me)-

So Far the Cover Art looks like this:

Dredging upDemeter Cover 2

I’m looking for at least 10-15 poets in total. It depends on how many are interested -then I can determine how many poems per poet. Right now I am thinking of at least three poems, but perhaps as many as four poems per poet? Any suggestions would be helpful with this process.

If the interest stays this small, I might even expand to five poems per poet-that will be up for debate among the previous six other poets listed above. I was hoping for a larger selection. But I must admit even if it winds up a smaller anthology-that wonderful things still can come in small packages.

I am more than willing to accept new poets! The basic themes are still the same. I am leaning towards dividing the book in half like I did with my previous project. The first time I just ordered each poem in the order it was emailed to me in the first half of our project. In the second half I put all the remaining poems grouped by each individual poet. We did also include small bio statements which we may not do this time-I’m going to leave it up to my poets-if they wish to do this again or not?

The themes are:

1. Autumn

2. Seasonal Holidays: Halloween, Day of the Dead, Samhain, Thanksgiving perhaps I should also include? Christmas and Winter Solstice here as well...?

3. Changing of Seasons: Summer into Fall or Fall into Winter

If you wish to be included? It is easy. Just email me a poem on one of the above themes. The Deadline is either Dec 1st or when I reach around 20 poets. Then I will ask for at least 2 poems possibly 3 more poems for each poet. If I do not reach that many poets- I am just extending our deadline by another two weeks So Dec 16th, 2014. Hopefully we can complete this project by sometime in Early Jan or Feb 2015.

My email is:

sexinthekitchensink@hotmail.com or holisticartworks@gmail.com Please put Poetry Anthology 2 in subject line or Dredging up Demeter.”

Autumn Anthology: still accepting Poems & Poets

This was first posted a few weeks ago. So far, I have roughly four or five poets who are interested. I am still accepting poetry entries until Dec 1st or until I reach a maximum number of poets. I’m looking for at least 10-15 poets in total. It depends on how many are interested -then I can determine how many poems per poet. Right now I am thinking of at least three poems, but perhaps as many as four poems per poet? Any suggestions would be helpful with this process.

“Last night I made an executive decision for a title. I basically like “Dredging up Demeter: Autumn Anthology of Poetry.” I did some basic artwork based upon this theme.

Poetry Anthology Project: part two

Some of you may know, I edited a Poetry Anthology last May called,”Help Wanted: poets please apply.”It started out with a very basic idea. I wanted to help other poets publish some of their work who had never published before OR who wanted to gain free publicity for their work by joining our anthology.

After much thought I have decided to try this again but this time asking the poets to follow one or more of the following three themes. The first anthology was very loose and there was no theme. That made for a very interesting collection. However, surprisingly many of the poets did ask if there was a theme or guidelines? There really were none! This second time I thought perhaps by having a series of set themes, I could give the poets more structure and our next new Anthology could have more cohesion as a group, like more “flow.”

These are the themes:

These are the themes I am considering:
1. Autumn
2.Seasons changing-Summer into Fall OR Fall into Winter
3.Fall Holidays: Halloween, Dia de los Muertos-(Mexican Day of the dead.),and Thanksgiving
To enter one must simply submit at least one poem based on one of these themes. Submit by email just like before.
So far I have three poets from my previous anthology who are interested in doing this again: Leesa, Omavi, and Carrie.
I am opening up the contest to other poets via my blog. Feel free to let me know if you are working on something and need more time.
Is Anybody remotely even interested in this? A second anthology project? Feedback is highly encouraged! I might even expand it to four poems per poet depending on how many responses I do get?
Also here are my title ideas, could you give feedback on which title appeals to each of you if you do decide to be part of this?
here they are:
A-” Everyman’s journey: falling into Autumn.”
B-“Everyman’s journey: Falling into winter.”
C-“Everyman’s journey: From fall to Winter.”
Each title will have the subtitle of a poetry anthology edited by Emily Sturgill.
Actually I find that I am a bit on the fence as far as titles go… here are a few others floating away in my mind-
D-“Falling into FreeVerse.”  E-“Dredging up Demeter”   OR  F-    “Songs to Samhain”
If anybody thinks they might have a better title, please share the idea with me! OR you can let me know which of these titles you lie best A-F and the majority wins. To enter this anthology, my basic rules are the same. Please email me at least one poem which follows this theme.Obviously, the three poets mentioned above-Leesa, Omavi and Carrie are already entered-they each sent a poem. The deadline to enter is by December 1st or when I reach a total of at least 20 poets. After I have all the poets entered or sooner if you wish-I will ask everyone for two-three more poems. So a total of three-four poems each.I will know how many poems per poet for sure after the deadline passes and I see how many poets are interested-if that makes sense?
Also would people want to submit bios again? I am open to this and would allow you to use the same bio or to change your bio. Basically, this is an idea in the rough. After I get the initial first  poems, I can come up with a more solid deadline for everything. I’m more than willing to open it up to new poets . You can email that to me direct at sexinthekitchensink@hotmail.com or my gmail which is: holisticartworks@gmail.com but please use Fall anthology Or New anthology in your subject line.Warming up with color abstract 2 Fall 2013 Warming up with color abstract 1 Fall 2013 IMAG0907 (1)These two paintings above were part of a series I did called “Warming up with color.” The other photo I took of a sunrise. All 3 images have little to do with a new anthology, but I was hoping to somehow inspire you. I am short on leaf art at the moment but I strongly feel leaf art would be the most appropriate! (Sorry I will work on that…) Well. Ok. Please email me a poem if this project interests you! To check out our first anthology, its a steal at just 99 cents here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Help-Wanted-please-Sturgill-Anthology-ebook/dp/B00L6O5P7C/ref=fallbacksessionReftagb_7?ie=UTF8&refRID=0ZXZ1RXSYNYA6AXY32XC

Poetry Anthology Project 2014

https://sexinthekitchensink.wordpress.com/2014/05/06/help-wanted-poets-please-apply/

I am seeking poets to join in a Poetry Anthology Project. This project is open to all and any poets. So far I had gotten 3 entries. I prefer if you enter via email. Please email me one single poem at sexinthekitchensink@hotmail.com If that address does not work please send it to my gmail at : holisticartworks@gmail.com. The idea is simple. Once I receive 20 poems, I will notify everybody. The first 20 poets who send a poem are accepted no questions asked.

The purpose of asking for only one poem, is merely to show intent that yes you are a poet and yes you want to be part of this anthology. Next after I get 20 poems or the deadline of June 21, 2014 happens-whichever comes first-next is stage two. I will then ask all the poets to send in two more poems each and a short auto-bio statement including links to published works or blogs or websites.

The purpose of this anthology is two-fold: 1. To display a very diverse amount of poets
2. To give poets publicity especially if they have never been published so far.

Because I am also a poet and an art therapist, I am very broad minded when it comes to poetry. I do not anticipate rejecting anybody-as long as you are in the first 20-and I am not judging any other poets work as good or bad or anything like that.I will also entry myself but only using the same guidelines I’m giving you guys-3 poems total-1 short auto-bio statement* try to keep bio statement to one page please. That way its fair to everybody else too.

As an Editor of this collection-primarily my only real concern is misspelled words.I will change those if I find them but that’s all. Also I am going to change everybody’s font to 12 point times New Roman. That’s really about it. I think with poetry people use grammar creatively-so I don’t wish to edit that. I don’t really have any rules regarding length of types of poems. I really just want to give new poets-or old poets-a place to shine.

I encourage any one to enter. So far, I only have 3 entries but four other poets have said maybe. I am hoping for 20 because I really want to publish it on kindle and Createspace.
The kindle version I would like to keep low like 99 cents. I’m really not trying to make money off other poets-what I want to do is help poets see their work get published and perhaps to encourage them to self-publish on their own.

Please email or comment below if you have any questions-thank you-
