Help Wanted: Poets please apply, is a poetry anthology project I started in early May 2014. I invited other poets via my wordpress blog to join in the project as a way of individual promotion and free publishing for those who never experienced that before. 18 poets came forward and we all added our own poetic flair. We sincerely hope you enjoy the variety of the diverse and very talented group of poets.
Sincerely Emily Sturgill-Editor   This first collection is roughly is 151 pages in length, but please remember ebooks  maybe longer than paperbacks-as is the case with this one. I am unsure without double checking but I think the printed book was just over 100-120 pages in length.
Anthology #2
It has just recently been released. It will be FREE starting April 2nd on Amazon’s kindle ebook platform.

Book Description

February 28, 2015
This is a creative collaborative collection of poetry focusing on three seasonal themes. First is Autumn, Secondly is seasonal holidays such as Dia de los muertos, Halloween, Samhain, Thanksgiving, Winter Solstice, Yule and Christmas. Last is transitioning the changing of Seasons from Summer into Autumn, or Autumn into Winter. There is an underlying connection to the natural world and our place as Poets in it. This collection is very unique yet diverse. Hopefully we weave a web of interrelated connections of Nature and her four seasons as we knock upon her door, we are dredging up Demeter. This collection includes the works of: Lessa Abbott, Omavi Victorine,Celestine Nudana,Jacob Appelman,Katy Ottaway,Scott William Kendall, Anna Bianca, Carrie Page,Emily Sturgill and Bianca Alu-Marr.
The second collection is roughly 79 pages long.

Anthology Ebook updates-get two for the price of None!! Free Promos!

I recently just wrapped up final revisions to my second Poetry Anthology, “Dredging up Demeter: An Autumn Anthology.” Edited by Emily Sturgill (2015) I also submitted the manuscript to become an on-demand paperback with http://www.createspace.com. The paperback version will be 8 x 11.5 and 62 pages long with colored images. It is looking like the price will be only $16.99, which is lower than I was anticipating! Anyways, to celebrate the release of both the paperback & the revised ebook, I am offering the kindle version as a free promotional download starting April 2, 2015-April 6, 2015.

This second anthology would have never in a million years occurred to me if it were not for the success of the first Anthology project I did along with 19 other poets last May, called”Help Wanted: Poets please apply.” (2014) Edited by Emily Sturgill. So I am also going to offer that one up for free download too! Starting April 1,2015-April 5,2015. So you can download both these  two wonderful ebook anthologies of poetry for FREE at no cost to you.

HERE are some links for both anthologies:

This is the first anthology “Help Wanted: poets please apply”:

This is the second anthology “Dredging up Demeter.”:

http://www.amazon.com/Dredging-Demeter-Autumn-Anthology-Poetry-ebook/dp/B00RJFQNH8/ref=asap_bc?ie=UTF8

The 1st is regularly priced at 99 cents. The 2nd is priced at $3.33 but the first week in April both will be FREE to download.

In exchange for being FREE, I am just tossing it out there that all my poets worked very hard on each book so if you do download either one it would be very lovely if you submit a review of one or both anthologies. Some of my poets are being published for the very first time and feedback on their work would be very appreciated by them. I would also appreciate feedback on either title. After you download either book, you can use the same links above to submit a review I believe? These collections are both very diverse and unique created by very talented poets. I am so proud that they allowed me to publish their material. Anyways, they are both equally wonderful and you should consider downloading them to check out these poetry collections.

Lastly this is a sneak peek at the paperback book cover for the new anthology: UPDATE As of 3/27/15 This paperback is available at the Createspace Store HERE is a link to buy:

Revisions added to Dredging up Demeter Anthology: 2nd Edition should be released tomorrow!

Hi. I am very pleased to announce that there is now some additional poetry in my recent anthology called,”Dredging up Demeter: An Autumn Anthology.” which is available off amazon.com’s kindle platform for just $3.33. There was one last poet whose work I wanted to also include. Everyone really worked hard on this collection. The following poets are featured in this work:

Lessa Abbott, Omavi Victorine,Celestine Nudana,Jacob Appelman,Katy Ottaway,Scott William Kendall, Anna Bianca, Carrie Page,Emily Sturgill and Bianca Alu-Marr.

This second revised edition was expanded to include the poetry of Bianca Alu-Marr and I wish to welcome her and thank her for joining our project. I expect to hear back from kindel tomorrow regarding the updates.

I did try to change the book cover a bit. But that was really about it. If you are one of the readers who have already gotten your kindle rcopy there should be instructions on how to update your version or kindle may contact you letting you know there are updates. If not you can go to manage my kindle on Amazon.com and click a box to manually update one or all of your ebooks. I believe thy have a feature that you can choose called whispersync or something  similar to that which allows you to automatically update anytime any author updates an ebook you have already bought.

Dredging up Demeter Second Edition Cover for KindelThis anthology would never had been possible if it were not for the creative collaboration of all of my poets.

I am hoping to submit a paperback version soon and will let everyone knows when that happens. It has been such a joyous experience to read all the wonderful and varied poetry around seasonal themes. Some Poets also choose to submit photography or artwork to compliment their writings. Once again, I just wanted to give sincere thanks for everybody coming together in the unique and fun way.

Here is a link:

The updated version will not be available for at least 12-24 hrs. So either by tomorrow evening or tomorrow morning depending, BUT since I slightly altered the cover that would be a great way to make sure you are getting the latest version!

Autumn Anthology: still accepting Poems & Poets

This was first posted a few weeks ago. So far, I have roughly four or five poets who are interested. I am still accepting poetry entries until Dec 1st or until I reach a maximum number of poets. I’m looking for at least 10-15 poets in total. It depends on how many are interested -then I can determine how many poems per poet. Right now I am thinking of at least three poems, but perhaps as many as four poems per poet? Any suggestions would be helpful with this process.

“Last night I made an executive decision for a title. I basically like “Dredging up Demeter: Autumn Anthology of Poetry.” I did some basic artwork based upon this theme.

Anthology Autumn Artwork1 Anthology Autumn Artwork Cover rough1 So far I have a total of five poets if I am including myself!! I am eager for more poets to join in-whether you were one of my poets in the first anthology OR not!! I am more than willing to accept new poets! The basic themes are still the same. I am leaning towards dividing the book in half like I did with my previous project. The first time I just ordered each poem in the order it was emailed to me in the first half of our project. In the second half I put all the remaining poems grouped by each individual poet. We did also include small bio statements which we may not do this time-I’m going to leave it up to my poets-if they wish to do this again or not?

The themes are:

1. Autumn

2. Seasonal Holidays: Halloween, Day of the Dead, Samhain, Thanksgiving perhaps I should also include? Christmas and Winter Solstice here as well…?

3. Changing of Seasons: Summer into Fall or Fall into Winter

If you wish to be included? It is easy. Just email me a poem on one of the above themes. The Deadline is either Dec 1st or when I reach around 20 poets. Then I will ask for at least 2 poems possibly 3 more poems for each poet. My email is:

sexinthekitchensink@hotmail.com or holisticartworks@gmail.com Please put Poetry Anthology 2 in subject line or Dredging up Demeter.”

Book Description

October 7, 2014
This is a collection of roughly 33 poems centering on the theme loosely based on the color Red. It also contains original artwork and is estimated at around 68 pages in length.Colors often invoke images and feelings. Imagery and emotions are the very fabric which poets create poetry. Color invites thought, form and concrete notions. I decided to focus on Red as it is one of my favorites. I can only hope my artwork along side my poetry can inspire or touch readers in a thoughtful focused way. Let’s explore the world of Red, its texture, it’s feelings, right down to its bones. This ebook does contain some mature content.
Please feel free to use the “Look inside the Book.” feature to see if some of the poetry/content appeals to you. $2.99 on Kindle. There is also a paperback version available for $16.99, 8.5×11, white pages with colored images, 68 pages. Available off both Amazon.com and http://www.createspacestore.com : here is that link:  https://www.createspace.com/5013532
Comments and Feedback or reviews are always highly encouraged and very welcomed.
Thank you, my wordpress readers! Without your encouragement and support as readers, I doubt I would even keep writing at all! Sincerely, Emily Sturgill

4.0 out of 5 stars A Delight of Imagery and Creativity…., May 12, 2014

This review is from: Art, Art, Art!!! Before Words.: Volume Two (Art, Art, Art! Before words. Book 2) (Kindle Edition)
“It is not in the stars to hold our destiny but in ourselves.”.. William Shakespeare

If “Art, Art, Art Before Words: Volume Two” was an oversized hardback, it would be considered a “coffee table book”. This slim striking colorful volume is a delight to the senses! With only one poem, a condensed autobiography, and over 40 images this is a very quick read; this chapbook continues where “Art, Art, Art Before Words: Volume One” left off.

Artist/poetess Emily Sturgill recalls her experience of attending college and completing her education with a serious mental illness (SMI). A brief chronological outline shows her milestones and academic accomplishments. With her husband Dean encouraging her, she graduated with a masters of education in art education and therapy from Wayne State University, Detroit, MI. in 2012. Ms. Sturgill lives in the suburbs outside Detroit with her husband and pets.

The poem: “Painting With Fire” is a joyful expression of creativity, beginning with a hearts desire. The rotation of the nightfall, shooting stars, passion and love, the dawn inviting a new day. Shakespeare is quoted from ‘Romeo and Juliet’ and ‘Hamlet’.

Some of the artworks are from Ms. Sturgill’s earliest college days (1996) to more recent times. My favorites include:
Detroit Landscape: photography.. 2002 ~ Building #3: photography.. 2002 ~ Church: photography.. 2002 ~ Dream: drawing/mixed media.. 1999 ~ Anger: pen/ink drawing.. 1996 ~ Funky Town: photography.. 2002 ~ Goddess: photography/montage.. 2002 ~ Self Portrait: photography/mixed media.. 2002 ~ Flat Planet June: photography/montage.. 2002 ~ Digital Goddess Montage: photography.. 2002 ~ Self Portraits: webcam.. 2014.

Many thanks, and much appreciation to Emily Sturgill for the paperback edition to this beautiful chapbook. I recommend viewing these artist chapbooks on color e-readers for better clarity of the images.

I really enjoy Ms. Sturgill’s artwork. She is a gifted writer as well and I enjoy her poetry books tremendously but it is also nice to view her personal art, some of which she shares in this book. I think readers will enjoy the art and text. I’m a fan of Ms. Sturgill’s work. I was pleased to have a careful look at Art, Art Art!!! Before Words. I recommend it to other readers, particularly art fans.

Poetry Anthology Project 2014

https://sexinthekitchensink.wordpress.com/2014/05/06/help-wanted-poets-please-apply/

I am seeking poets to join in a Poetry Anthology Project. This project is open to all and any poets. So far I had gotten 3 entries. I prefer if you enter via email. Please email me one single poem at sexinthekitchensink@hotmail.com If that address does not work please send it to my gmail at : holisticartworks@gmail.com. The idea is simple. Once I receive 20 poems, I will notify everybody. The first 20 poets who send a poem are accepted no questions asked.

The purpose of asking for only one poem, is merely to show intent that yes you are a poet and yes you want to be part of this anthology. Next after I get 20 poems or the deadline of June 21, 2014 happens-whichever comes first-next is stage two. I will then ask all the poets to send in two more poems each and a short auto-bio statement including links to published works or blogs or websites.

The purpose of this anthology is two-fold: 1. To display a very diverse amount of poets
2. To give poets publicity especially if they have never been published so far.

Because I am also a poet and an art therapist, I am very broad minded when it comes to poetry. I do not anticipate rejecting anybody-as long as you are in the first 20-and I am not judging any other poets work as good or bad or anything like that.I will also entry myself but only using the same guidelines I’m giving you guys-3 poems total-1 short auto-bio statement* try to keep bio statement to one page please. That way its fair to everybody else too.

As an Editor of this collection-primarily my only real concern is misspelled words.I will change those if I find them but that’s all. Also I am going to change everybody’s font to 12 point times New Roman. That’s really about it. I think with poetry people use grammar creatively-so I don’t wish to edit that. I don’t really have any rules regarding length of types of poems. I really just want to give new poets-or old poets-a place to shine.

I encourage any one to enter. So far, I only have 3 entries but four other poets have said maybe. I am hoping for 20 because I really want to publish it on kindle and Createspace.
The kindle version I would like to keep low like 99 cents. I’m really not trying to make money off other poets-what I want to do is help poets see their work get published and perhaps to encourage them to self-publish on their own.

Please email or comment below if you have any questions-thank you-

Help Wanted: Poets please apply…

I am just tumbling the idea of a collection of poetry of some of my own poems, but also publishing some poetry of some of my http://www.wordpress.com friends. I am unsure of how to go about doing such an anthology? Especially as far as earning any profits…To be fair, I am not looking to cash in on anybody elses’s talents. Instead I like the idea of several of us poets coming together and creating a self published anthology of poetry MORE for self-expression and Self-exposure, publicity if you will….It’s just an idea in the rough.

But I am thinking maybe X amount of poets & 3 poems each + a short auto-bio of each poet and links to other published works or links to poets blog or website…

If this idea appeals to anybody please send me a sample poem and an email introduction to:
sexinthekitchensex@hotmail.com

If I edited this type of book for kindle I would probably price it very low like .99 cents for the ebook.
I’m not too sure if this even interests anybody? But I know some of the poets i follow here have yet to be published. Perhaps being included in an anthology would give them the well needed push to self publish their own stuff.

My proposals is simple-email me a single poem and the first 20 poet’s poems I receive will be asked to be part of this collection. Deadline is whenever I receive 20 entry emails or let’s say the Summer Solstice June 21st Midnight EST. If you are selected-via-I receive 20 poems-I will email those poets ASAP and you will need to submit just 2 more poems and a short auto-bio poet statement.

Well then, let see if there are any fishes biting? Let the Games begin!!
