Help Wanted: Poets please apply, is a poetry anthology project I started in early May 2014. I invited other poets via my wordpress blog to join in the project as a way of individual promotion and free publishing for those who never experienced that before. 18 poets came forward and we all added our own poetic flair. We sincerely hope you enjoy the variety of the diverse and very talented group of poets.
Sincerely Emily Sturgill-Editor   This first collection is roughly is 151 pages in length, but please remember ebooks  maybe longer than paperbacks-as is the case with this one. I am unsure without double checking but I think the printed book was just over 100-120 pages in length.
Anthology #2
It has just recently been released. It will be FREE starting April 2nd on Amazon’s kindle ebook platform.

Book Description

February 28, 2015
This is a creative collaborative collection of poetry focusing on three seasonal themes. First is Autumn, Secondly is seasonal holidays such as Dia de los muertos, Halloween, Samhain, Thanksgiving, Winter Solstice, Yule and Christmas. Last is transitioning the changing of Seasons from Summer into Autumn, or Autumn into Winter. There is an underlying connection to the natural world and our place as Poets in it. This collection is very unique yet diverse. Hopefully we weave a web of interrelated connections of Nature and her four seasons as we knock upon her door, we are dredging up Demeter. This collection includes the works of: Lessa Abbott, Omavi Victorine,Celestine Nudana,Jacob Appelman,Katy Ottaway,Scott William Kendall, Anna Bianca, Carrie Page,Emily Sturgill and Bianca Alu-Marr.
The second collection is roughly 79 pages long.

Revisions added to Dredging up Demeter Anthology: 2nd Edition should be released tomorrow!

Hi. I am very pleased to announce that there is now some additional poetry in my recent anthology called,”Dredging up Demeter: An Autumn Anthology.” which is available off amazon.com’s kindle platform for just $3.33. There was one last poet whose work I wanted to also include. Everyone really worked hard on this collection. The following poets are featured in this work:

Lessa Abbott, Omavi Victorine,Celestine Nudana,Jacob Appelman,Katy Ottaway,Scott William Kendall, Anna Bianca, Carrie Page,Emily Sturgill and Bianca Alu-Marr.

This second revised edition was expanded to include the poetry of Bianca Alu-Marr and I wish to welcome her and thank her for joining our project. I expect to hear back from kindel tomorrow regarding the updates.

I did try to change the book cover a bit. But that was really about it. If you are one of the readers who have already gotten your kindle rcopy there should be instructions on how to update your version or kindle may contact you letting you know there are updates. If not you can go to manage my kindle on Amazon.com and click a box to manually update one or all of your ebooks. I believe thy have a feature that you can choose called whispersync or something  similar to that which allows you to automatically update anytime any author updates an ebook you have already bought.

Dredging up Demeter Second Edition Cover for KindelThis anthology would never had been possible if it were not for the creative collaboration of all of my poets.

I am hoping to submit a paperback version soon and will let everyone knows when that happens. It has been such a joyous experience to read all the wonderful and varied poetry around seasonal themes. Some Poets also choose to submit photography or artwork to compliment their writings. Once again, I just wanted to give sincere thanks for everybody coming together in the unique and fun way.

The updated version will not be available for at least 12-24 hrs. So either by tomorrow evening or tomorrow morning depending, BUT since I slightly altered the cover that would be a great way to make sure you are getting the latest version!

My second Anthology Poetry project that I edited is now available on kindle for $3.33.

It contains the hard work of eight other poets, nine including myself. I just updated the book description to include all the poets names-however those changes will not appear for 12 hours. But this is what the updated description should say:

This is a creative collaborative collection of poetry focusing on three seasonal themes. First is Autumn, Secondly is seasonal holidays such as Dia de los muertos, Halloween, Samhain, Thanksgiving, Winter Solstice, Yule and Christmas. Last is transitioning the changing of Seasons from Summer into Autumn, or Autumn into Winter. There is an underlying connection to the natural world and our place as Poets in it. This collection contains the works of: Leesa Abbott, Omavi Victorine, Celestine Nudana, Jacob Appelman, Katy Ottaway,Scott William Kendall, Anna Bianca,Carrie Page and Emily Sturgill.

That last part was added this morning and should show up tomorrow!! I really meant to put it in the first time!!! Sincere apologies!

Everyone worked very hard on this. I really appreciate all the poets for making this happen-I merely had an idea-they supplied all of their talents.

Still accepting poets for Autumn Poetry Anthology: Update

I am still working on the cover art. Right now, I have a total of six poets interested, I am going to list them by first name only if you do not see your name & have already submitted please email me. If you wish to join us I am extending the deadline for at least another two weeks.

The list of current poets involved are: Leesa, Carrie,Omavi,Celestine,Bianca and Emily-(me)-

So Far the Cover Art looks like this:

Dredging upDemeter Cover 2

I’m looking for at least 10-15 poets in total. It depends on how many are interested -then I can determine how many poems per poet. Right now I am thinking of at least three poems, but perhaps as many as four poems per poet? Any suggestions would be helpful with this process.

If the interest stays this small, I might even expand to five poems per poet-that will be up for debate among the previous six other poets listed above. I was hoping for a larger selection. But I must admit even if it winds up a smaller anthology-that wonderful things still can come in small packages.

I am more than willing to accept new poets! The basic themes are still the same. I am leaning towards dividing the book in half like I did with my previous project. The first time I just ordered each poem in the order it was emailed to me in the first half of our project. In the second half I put all the remaining poems grouped by each individual poet. We did also include small bio statements which we may not do this time-I’m going to leave it up to my poets-if they wish to do this again or not?

The themes are:

1. Autumn

2. Seasonal Holidays: Halloween, Day of the Dead, Samhain, Thanksgiving perhaps I should also include? Christmas and Winter Solstice here as well...?

3. Changing of Seasons: Summer into Fall or Fall into Winter

If you wish to be included? It is easy. Just email me a poem on one of the above themes. The Deadline is either Dec 1st or when I reach around 20 poets. Then I will ask for at least 2 poems possibly 3 more poems for each poet. If I do not reach that many poets- I am just extending our deadline by another two weeks So Dec 16th, 2014. Hopefully we can complete this project by sometime in Early Jan or Feb 2015.

The Pathway of the Sun:

The Pathway of the Sun:

Morning arises slowly

as The pathway of the Sun

inches across the Sky,

leaving ribbons of colored streaks

which grow and expand

into a glorious blaze of Sunrise.

The pathway of the Sun:

Morning arises quickly

as people tumble out of

their beds, like crazed tumbleweeds.

Trying to fit into the suit

of each of their lives

as quickly as possible

to get to the places they must go to

as fast as humanly possible.

The pathway of the Sun:

Morning arises quietly

Nobody hears the color of light

yet it changes quite

rapidly

from a Sunrise

into Blue Skies with velvet white

frosted clouds.

The pathway of the Sun:

Morning dies down daily

as quick as it awakens, it breathes, it grows

into Sunshine filled days

exposed by Time & each time

the Sun fights back He only

manages to die down into

the colors of twilight and  He

gives in to the Epiphany of

Starlight.

The pathway of the Sun:

To rise and fall each day always,

until our time runs out.

Have you ever wondered?

What motivates the Sun,

so that he does not give up completely

and just burn out?

Autumn Announces itself…

Autumn Announces itself…

10/31/14 by Emily Sturgill

Autumn comes in slowly,

creeping temperatures dropping

in Michigan below 50.

The wind does yell.

The wind does howl.

Th chill fills the air

and my cat wants to go outside,

she begins to meow.

a pathetic sound,

a plea which will be

for tonight at least-

ignored.

Autumn Announces itself

in all its angry growls

and howls of a wind

so fierce that it fills my house.

With the thin crackle, crunching of

paper thin leaves

falling from trees.

Autumn in all her glory,

has arrived, as we settle in

by the fire

about to tell stories.

She is here,

Autumn announces herself.

It’s Halloween

It’s Halloween 10/31/14

Just a bit past 5:25

and the Wind awakens

with a voice that’s alive.

It howls, hollers, winds up to

40 miles per hour.

Setting the scene

for some Halloween screams.

My token black cat

leaves my side.

As the wind roars and hollers

like something alive.

A train sounds off

it’s blast in the distance

before twilight falls,

bringing demons, ghosts, ghouls,

and witches.

Stirring a cauldron of black pitch,

smoke from dry ice

candle lit jack o’lanterns

and some candy

but only if you are nice.

forShare (1) Happy Halloween Everyone!!!

Red Blood Moon

Red Blood Moon

full until

it becomes

eclipsed into the

Dawn’s morning light.

the light eats away

the darkness of the night.

It ushers in the morning with

secrets beyond our sight.

As the blood red moon

controls the oceans tides

and deep inside our own

liquified minds.

The tug and the pull

until after when

the moon sheds its thick

skin and sneaks

quietly away

vanishes without a whisper

without a word

this theif of our night

is never heard.

Felt yes, but heard never.

She creeps silently away

as her cloak turns the pages

of a beautiful new day.

Autumn slides in

As Summer slips away

from frayed sunburned fingers

and children at play-

the weather starts to crumble

and Autumn slides in.

As Summer slips away,

the nights get colder

the wind gets bolder

the light begins to dim at dusk

when suddenly,

Autumn slides in.

As Summer slips away,

swimsuits get traded for sweaters

green leaves begin to spin

into gold, bronze, and red

as Autumn slides in.

As Summer slips away,

the thermostat gets switched from off

to on, blankets cover the bedsheets

and feeling a chill

we watch the sky just as

Autumn slides in.

Autumn slides in

to home plate as spectators all

begin the yearly cheer

Autumn slides in,

bringing us home again.
