Tip-toe through the daisies

It’s cold here.

So then, I close my eyes

and I imagine things.

I imagine that I

can tip-toe through the daisies

which lie buried under deep snow

I imagine them bloom, and-

then I imagine them grow

into a sea

of devastation

a sea of utter raw beauty-

you would agree,

if you could just, only close your eyes

and tip-toe through the daisies-

C’mon old man winter,

I am ready for you to stop following me.

I am ready for a sea full of daisies

and the beauty they may bring

a rarity called

Spring.

Not feeling well…”In a world of Pain.” by Emily Sturgill (2/4/2014)

Camera    “Women according to the three phases of the Moon.”Oil on Canvas board, 1992, E.H. Cato

In a world of Pain: My Body carries Sadness

My body carries Sadness

just inside

the blink of an eye.

I am weighed down,

too much mud and sand

as Time stands still.

And the ugliness from within

Pain-it takes over-my lights grow dim.

A secret kept,

like an unmade bed

messy, loud, yet silent too-

impossible to ignore

this fit

this pressure

this utter exhaustion

I discover myself

unraveling time and time again and

again.

This pain does not mesh

with the rose colored glasses

I’d like to fit in.

To bleed

is to be silent

to hurt

is the only way

to find your voice

among a sea of screams

but you lie and tell

yourself:

I will be ok.

I will be ok.

No matter what life throws my way;

I just know I will handle it

I will be ok.

Another book review: ebook “Moon Stream: poetry and art chapbook.”

4.0 out of 5 stars hungry for more, February 14, 2014
Amazon Verified Purchase(What’s this?)
This review is from: Moon Stream: A Chapbook of Poems and Art (Kindle Edition)
Buying this was a leap of faith for me. As somebody on a limited income, (I’m on disability)-I rarely pay this much for an e-book-$5.99. Despite being only 26 pages, it looked intriguing, so I thought I’d risk it. Ms. Gignoux is a real knockout as a poet. She is very talented. Her art was a nice touch. While, I do not regret buying this item, I really was hungry for more-both poetry and art-and I guess that is a compliment to her mind-blowing talent that she creates a world of poetry in such a short collection that leaves the reader wanting more. The only reason I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 is because I feel she could have gone a bit longer. Also, I feel pretty strongly that if you include the word “Art” in your title you should have more than 3 pieces of artwork. But that comes back to my own personal standards because I also publish Artist and Poetry chapbooks on kindle as well. The art she did use was very beautiful but once again I say: this book leaves you hungry for more, more , more!! Despite that I did enjoy her book-I devoured it whole in one sitting.I will most likely re-read it from time to time it made a nice addition to my kindle library.

Book review

http://www.amazon.com/Brief-Thriving-Individuals-Mental-Illness/dp/1304490920/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1392302957&sr=1-1&keywords=A+brief+guide+to+thriving+for+individuals+with+Mental+illness+and+their+loved+ones

In this book, Dr. Abbott addresses several basic issues and concerns, which would be very useful to anyone diagnosed recently with mental illness, or that person’s friends and family. She presents a model of Recovery in five stages. Dr. Abbott writes that she adopted-(invented perhaps?)-this model, after studying similar models such as the well known 5 stages of Grief/ Loss or certain recovery from addiction models. However she contrasts her model by pointing out while other models are static, hers is not. She feels her model is more fluid-to me her model almost seems circular-although we both agree that a person in any process form of recovery from mental illness may repeat these stages or regress or progress at different stages.

As she points out many with mental illnesses may go in and out of these stages at any given time. Here are her five stages: 1. Psychological Changes 2. Self-Awareness of those changes 3.Receiving help.4. Acceptance of ones own mental illness. 5.Reaching out to others. She does explain not everyone will complete this entire process outlined. The last step is the hardest-to deal with stigma and to reach out to others in need-still suffering-while this is noble-not everyone is capable of this or even wishes to try this.(the author does acknowledge this fact.) Also in this book she recounts her own story of mental illness. I do wish that this section was longer and that she would have expanded. But this is a brief guidebook, I do understand why her focus is not on her personal experiences so much. She centers on the issues faced by those with mental illness and how to help.

This is an useful resource no matter what stage of recovery you are in. This book is ideal because it emphasizes two things; You are not alone and there are a multitude of ways you can help yourself.
One last thing I would like to add, is what the Author says about Hope: “The self-fulfilling
prophecy studied by psychologists, includes the idea that what we continue to believe about ourselves or our future will Eventually come to be. It’s essential to maintain a positive outlook about yourself and your future.”(2013, Abbott.L, p.26)

Michigan Snow

moshi in snow winter 13                                 Michigan Snow

The snow knows

where it wants to go.

Here in Michigan we are getting,

oh so weary of the Michigan Snow.

It is dreary, it blankets us completely, even my dogs

get tired of this mess. This has been sincerely,

one of our worst winters in recent history.

A year ago, there was barely any and we were spoiled

like small children-we thought nothing about the

snow of Winters past. We had forgotten about the bad driving, or getting your car stuck in the snow-

in your very own driveway!! We did not see this arctic blast coming down upon us.

We never thought, we did not ask, we only assumed-

that this year would be like the last.

We were so wrong. And now I feel blue, from all this-Michigan snow.

I am so sick of it. Not to mention the dog in the photo, he is my 11 year old

Shiba Inu. He’s sick of it too-sometimes it comes up to his chest.

We are from Michigan, born and breed. We should expect this stuff,

yet it was unexpected for many. In fact, it blew us away.

All this Michigander Snow, in and out- every single day!
